High School Debut Vol 5 by Kazune Kawahara Manga Review

Haruna doesn’t even remember her?  Talk about adding insult to injury.  Here Leona has plotted about getting her vengeance, and ditzy Haruna doesn’t even remember her.  What Haruna does know is that Leona has a terrifying ability by males, and she’s afraid of what’s going to happen when she turns her attentions on Yoh.  How is she going to keep Leona from snatching Yoh away from her?  particularly when he won’t even really confess how much he likes her?  Bet that cost Haruna a few sleepless nights.

The next story arc was just as good.  When Haruna realizes that Mami is the only one in their group of friends without a boyfriend, she decides to find her one.  She settles on the uber nice Asaoka, and one misstep after another leads to a huge misunderstanding with Yoh.  Even though Haruna is much better at expressing her feelings than Yoh, they are both so stubborn that neither will apologize to the other.  In an attempt to help them out, Asaoka declares that he’s going to take Haruna away from Yoh.  With friends like that, I guess Yoh doesn’t need to be on the look out for any enemies.

If you haven’t read any previous volumes of High School Debut, that is a good starting point.  The relationships are easy to understand for first day readers, and it as an added bonus, it was laugh out loud funny.  So be careful where you read it.  You have been warned.

When beautiful transfer student Leona Matsuzaka seems to take a special interest in Haruna, she gets the mistaken concept that the other student is overcome with admiration for her.  When it turns out that Leona is holding an old grudge against her, Haruna had better watch out!  After Leona declares that she’s going to compose her life a living hell - and steal her boyfriend for good measure- Haruna freaks.  How will Yoh be able to fend off Leona’s considerable charms?

This was the best installment of High School Debut so far.  Haruna is such a space cadet, I’m not certain how Yoh puts up with her.  I think that she has worn away at him, grinding down his common sense until he is helpless in her presence.  I love their relationship - when danger lurks, it’s Haruna who runs to protect her man.  It doesn’t matter that most of the danger exists only in her mind - she’s gonna save Yoh anyway!

The story arc with Leona kept the laughs coming.  When she transfers into Haruna’s class, she can’t believe that fate has smiled so fortunately upon her.  She’s going to get revenge for Haruna ruining her life!  What?!
